The story of Purushottama Ekadashi
In Treta Yuga there was a powerful king Kritavirya. The king had many queens, but still had no children. Desiring to have a child, the king along with his queens performed severe penance. But he did not see the fruits of his repentance. In such a situation, the queens asked Mata Anusuya for redress. Then his mother along with the king asked him to fast on Ekadashi Shukla Paksha in the month of Mal.
The queens observed the Padmini Ekadashi fast as per the rules prescribed by Goddess Anusuya. At the end of the fast, the Lord appeared and asked to ask for a boon. He begged God for this boon to give us such a son who is full of all qualities, who is respected in all the three worlds and whom no one can beat except you. God gave him such a boon. And after some time the queen gave birth to a son who became known as Kritavirya Arjuna. In the course of time, this child became a very powerful king who also imprisoned Ravana.
Importance of Padmini Ekadashi 2023
